What is the Data Workspace?
The Data Workspace is a single, centralized place to view, filter, update, and export all of your organization's ESG data across the Novata platform in real time. Rather than data living separately inside each individual report, the Data Workspace pulls your metric answers together into one view and acts as your organization's source of truth.
It runs off your answers. For any given metric, reporting context, and org unit, the Data Workspace surfaces the most recent answer and treats that as the preferred value. This is what makes Novata's "collect once, report many" approach work: you maintain your data in one place and sync it out to the frameworks and reports that need it.
What does it do?
You can see all of your data in one grid and narrow it down using filters for tags (such as EDCI or SFDR), reporting period, users, and business units. Once you've filtered to a view you find useful, you can save it for later and download any filtered version to Excel.
You can also update answers directly in the Data Workspace. This is the key behavior to understand: when you edit an answer here, that update flows through to all of your open reports that share the same metric and reporting context. That means you can correct a value at the source, without reopening or resubmitting an individual report.
It works at every level of your organization. A user at the parent org sees everything; a user assigned to a business unit or facility sees the data for that level and any org units beneath it. It's available in both the investor and company environments, and supports standardized frameworks including EDCI and SFDR.
What it does not do:
- It does not automatically pull in Carbon Navigator data that hasn't been copied into a report. Carbon Navigator works differently — you sync data out of it into report metrics, but not everything flows into the Data Workspace.
- It does not sync in the other direction automatically. Updating an answer inside an individual report does not update that answer elsewhere — only editing it in the Data Workspace propagates the change across reports.
- It does not currently offer a native aggregate roll-up across business units. Data is filtered by level, but there is no built-in company-wide summed view yet.
- It does not guarantee that every report holds identical values. Answers can still differ report to report; the Data Workspace simply shows the most recent one as the source of truth.
Where is it available?
The Data Workspace is available in both the investor and company platforms and is accessible from the main navigation. Reports can be synced both to and from it — you can push values from the Data Workspace into an open report, or sync a report's data into the Workspace.
A note on syncing:
Syncing is not a strict one-to-one copy. When you sync reports through the Data Workspace, keep in mind that blank metrics may carry over prior answers, calculated metrics take the calculation output rather than an "elect not to report" response, and audit trail details (date issued, due date, submitter) can change. When accuracy matters — particularly around resubmissions — take an aggregate download before and after and compare, rather than assuming the two match exactly.
